Hey there kittens. Sorry we went missing yesterday–my sincerest apologies. Sometimes life gets in the way and all you can do is ignore your calendar and to do list and try to survive.

That being said, I’m not sure where summer went, but the date on the calendar tells me it’s nearly over. I hope y’all got in more vacation and time by the pool than I did. This week, there’s a slew of new restaurants opening up, no doubt in anticipation for fall.

Bitch Becca is still over romping about Europe with her beau so I’m Captain of the Bitch ship this week. Hope y’all have a great week, shipmates!

Bethesda Row, the charming shopping destination, is playing ’80s classics every Tuesday in August with its  ’80s Movies Under the Stars. Movies are free of charge and begin at dusk (around 8:45pm). This week, it’s Pretty in Pink,  the 1986 flick starring Molly Ringwald, Jon Cryer, and Harry Dean Stanton. Bethesda Row restaurant Redwood is offering special Pretty in Pink themed cuisine including, Pretty in Pink popcorn, salmon rillettes, and raspberry mousse. Drink specials are pink as well: you must wear pink to get cosmos and sparking rose for $5 all night.

Feeling exhausted? Get your mid- week protein fix. Chicago-based PROTEIN BAR opens a DC output today. With a high protein, nutrition-rich and healthy carb menu, PROTEIN BAR ‘s menu bosts customizable high-protein blended drinks, bowls, chili, soups, salads, and its signature PROTEIN BAR-RITOs. The spot caters to healthy professionals on-the-go. Hours:  Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Saturday and  10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Sunday. PROTEIN BAR, 7th and D N.W., Washington, D.C.

So, I’ve had my wedding dress picked out for two years. It’s a backless lace Monique Lhullier from the Fall 2010 collection, and it is stunning. If you’re actually engaged, or just day dreaming like me, then head to Carine’s.  Carine’s Bridal Atelier is hosting its Monique Lhuillier’s Semi-Annual Trunk Show from August 23-25th.  The newest Spring 2013 collection will be featured at the trunk show as well as a selection of her best sellers from previous collections. Store hours are Monday 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Carine’s, 1726 Wisconsin Ave. N.W., Washington, D.C.

Why not have date night on H Street? Le Grenier, a French bistro by the folks behind Le Chat Noir, opened last week. The restaurant boasts a superb wine list–Bordeaux anyone?– and classic French fare like onion soup, steak frites, crepes, and frog leg. Le Grenier, 502 H Street N.E., Washington, D.C. (202) 544-4999.

Like BBQ? Like vino? Head out to Columbia Pike and close out the summer with the First Annual Backyard BBQ and Bash. It’s a backyard BBQ themed wine tasting with 18 wines from around the world and food catered by Backyard BBQ & Catering Company. The proceeds benefit the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization, a non-profit with a mission that’s obvious from the name. 4-10 p.m., Twisted Vines Bottleshop & Bistro, 2803 Columbia Pike, Arlington, V.A.

Or, if you prefer football with your beer, come support yours truly, brunettes and blondes alike at the 2012 Blondes vs. Brunettes Draft Party. The annual powderpuff football game, played in November, raises money for the National Capital Alzheimer’s Association. We ladies practice for three months up to game day– and the team members who made the fundraising and practice cut are announced at the annual draft party. Saturday, 3-6 p.m., Mad Rose Tavern, 3100 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington, Va.

Brunch! Lately, we’ve enjoyed Blue Duck (along with Owen Wilson), Mintwood Place (along with Obama) and Ping Pong Dim Sum (much to the dismay of our Asian friends). If you need more options, use our handy dandy Southern brunch guide.
