The Lust List: Winter’s Statement Minis

Come winter, it’s easy to just put away all your skirts—bare legs don’t stand a chance against the brutal East Coast temperatures. I tend to keep a few out—because I love a good skirt-and-tights look. And, these days, thanks to erratic temperatures, there’s a chance you might be able to get away without tights all together. The only upside to global warming, I suppose.

The reason I love winter’s miniskirts is the texture, the structure, and the style. Come fall, the shades get darker, the colors richer, and the textures more enticing. Leather, wool, and cashmere, of course. And let’s not forget tweed, plaid, houndstooth, velvet, and corduroy.

My favorite way to make use of these textures is in a structured high-fashion mini—be it houndstooth with a ruffle, tweed with leather waistband, or military khaki with a unique leather trim. My favorite spot for a fashionable skirt that no one else will be wearing? Intermix. The high-fashion boutique retailer that curates the latest and greatest designers can’t be beat when it comes to stylish, memorable pieces.

Better yet, Intermix continues to have epic sales, with 40% off the prices of items already on sale. I snagged this leather Helmut Lang mini for less tan $200, and it was originally priced north of $500.

I love the rich leather trim and structure—it pairs perfectly with tan mules in early fall, brown booties, or brown riding boots come winter. For a long, sleek look, I’d pair it with a black long-sleeve tee and tights. A navy long-sleeved tee and navy tights would also do nicely.

It’s long enough that it will suffice for work lunches and meetings but still look cute for a night out.

My other favorite way to make it through winter is with at-home beauty treatments, with the help of PRIV, an on-demand beauty service. Just download the app, and schedule at-home blowouts, makeup application and manicures, right in the comfort of your own home. I love the wellness element—you can also order massages and in-home personal training.

My favorite self-care combo is a massage followed by a blowout. I can thank PRIV for my perfect locks and the spare hour that I had answering emails in my bathrobe while someone else did my hair. It was glorious.
