Romp (verb): to run or play in a lively, carefree, or boisterous manner.
Back last May, I expressed my skepticism surrounding the romper—they are hard to fit and take the fun out of outfit creation, I quipped. Then, I eventually gave in, citing the ease of outfit creation and the fun of wearing a onesie around as worth the fitting fuss.
Much to my surprise, the romper trend has held fast and true. Rather than fading in and out in one season, the onesie affectionately known as a romper or playsuit remains a popular retail item. And, rompers are coming in more shapes and sizes—rather than just a strapless, short and silky teeny item to fit a size 0 or 2. Designers are now makng rompers are coming in pants, shorts, and skorts. They’re available as halters, tanks, short sleeve, one-shoulder, long sleeve and off-the shoulder. They come with draping, wraping, drawstrings, cut-out-backs and other flattering cuts.
To summarize, it looks like the romper is here to stay. In fact, I’ll be wearing one this weekend as I frolic around celebrating my day of birth.
