I’ve never met a white dress I didn’t like. In fact, I have a whole section of my closet dedicated to blanc frocks. It’s a bit of an obsession—and spare me the psychoanalysis, thank you very much. Come summer, a great white dress is a must: good with a tan, easily accessorized, and oh-so-appealing. You really can’t go wrong with a great white dress—and the change in seasons parallels a change from black dresses to white, and red wine to white or rosé. (Throwing a few Tide wipes in your handbag or suitcase is always a great idea.)
Given my preponderance of little white dresses, I’m always looking to elevate my fashion game, i.e. to buy something new with each season. I’ve got a bit of an obsession with pom poms, so I died and went to heaven when I spotted this Red Carter frock lined with pom poms. It’s a light linen with a flattering fit-and-flair frock, so it’s a must for spring and summer.
With the light texture and playful poms, this frock was the perfect piece for New Orleans, which gets hot and muggy by March. I was certainly overdressed as we strolled down Bourbon Street and through Jackson Square to brunch—turns out shorts and t-shirts are the uniform for hungover American tourists.
The dress paired perfectly with my go-to summer handbag, my bamboo ark bag from Cult Gaia, which seems to be the it-bag for blogger babes these days. (Hey, I had it first!) I dressed it down with some braided slide sandals, which are very on-trend for summer.
As far as this season’s favorite frocks, I’ve noticed a subtle, Bohemian vibe. Whether it’s tassels, pom poms, pull strings, or a frayed hemline, it’s all about the subtle details that add interest. It’s not enough to have a simple white dress—you need a little somethin’ extra.
