There are many challenges and perks to working for yourself, but chief among them, for me, is that I can work when I want and wear what I want. In these hot, hot summer days, I’ve been relying on comfy cotton that’s functional and breathable.
I also realized I can’t take every meeting in athleisure, as there are still some people who mind if you turn up in yoga pants to a lunch meeting. Therefore, I’ve filled my closet with the next best thing to Lululemon: Kit & Ace, a Canadian brand of breathable, technical cotton to take you from day-to-night from the makers of Lululemon.
I live for the tank tops, which are unbelievably soft and stretchy, as they made from a super secret technical cashmere. My latest favorite is the “Something on the Side” talk, with white and grey, adding a bit of diversity to my rolodex of grey v-necks and ribbed tanks.
In addition to basics for men and women like t-shirts and shirt dresses, Kit & Ace offers a curated selection of unique pieces like ponchos, cropped trousers and pencil skirts. It stays very true to its functional, minimalist brand with every piece, store, and collaboration—once you’ve experienced Kit & Ace you’ll be able to spot the brand from a mile away.
Like the Kit & Ace brand, my staple color palette is white, grey, and black. That said, I struggle to resist a bit of color, and knew this Kit & Ace striped poncho would pair perfectly with my favorite cobalt accessories, like my go-to Gigi New York Madison shoulder bag.
The poncho doubles as a scarf for those frigid air conditioned summer spaces and as a blanket for beach days and picnics in the park. Or, for a summer movie night at Union Market.

Kit & Ace recently opened its third DC location in Georgetown—the other two are in Shaw and Bethesda—and celebrated with a unique, curated launch party thrown by my friend Leah. I celebrated by picking up a few things—and suggest you do the same!
