Every season, I figure out a way to incorporate stripes into my wardrobe. In the fall, it’s a striped coat. Come winter, a striped chunky sweater with a red lip is my go-to uniform. And now for spring, I’m loving subtle stripes, like the pattern found in these culottes.
Culottes are complicated. They are an awkward length and can be the ultimate man repeller piece in your closet. However, when styled right, they are comfortable, functional, and stylish. For me, they are the perfect transition pant from winter to spring. As I’ve spent most of April ducking in and out of rain storms and manic weather, I love that they are breezier than a straight leg pant, but warmer than wearing a skirt with bare legs on a brisk morning commute. The wide-leg silhouette and deep pockets of a culotte pair perfectly with a great block heel, stiletto, or sneaker and can take you from the office to happy hour.
Crop tops, however, do have an finite time and place in the fashion calendar. Admittedly, I don’t have as many of these slinky tops in my closet as I did when I was a regular music festival and pool party goer, but the ones I do have pair perfectly with high waisted pants, shorts, or pencil skirts. Sometimes, I find they are the only piece in my closet that complement a bottom that steals the show, like these pants.
With a clean outfit like this, I like to add a punchy accessory like these hoop earrings. I never met a pom pom I didn’t like, so when I saw these earrings on a recent mother-daughter weekend, we sprung for a fun earring to wear well into the summer months.
