The Fashion Menu: September

Happy September! Whether you’re heading back to school or simply celebrating the early return of the pumpkin spice latte, get excited for one of our favorite seasons. This is an odd time for us in the Northeast as we’re beginning to unpack our light layers while still battling 80 degree days. One day we’re going to wake up and fall will have arrived in full.

During this seasonal transition, we’re moving away from summer brights and gravitating towards neutral colors. No outfit is complete without a fun accent; we love the look of a hint of leopard to elevate our neutral palette. Animal print overload can err on the side of tacky so we recommend keeping it to one accessory like a sassy pair of heels, a lightweight scarf, or calf-hair clutch.

We’re hanging on to a bit of laid-back summer style with comfortable, distressed denim in a variety of washes. Keep this look polished and Casual Friday appropriate by adding a sharp blazer, a silk top, and snappy pumps. We’re also a fan of slip-on tennies or smoking slippers to pad about town on the weekends. Below are our September must-haves from head to perfectly-manicured toe. Brisk temperatures and apple-picking dates not included.

When it comes to bottoms, we’re all about rich colors and distressed washes. Emily can’t wait to put on these J Crew. Having recently lost her phone for a few days, Charlotte had to resort to good, old-fashioned watches for telling time. During this period, she also realized her watch game was in need of some spicing up. Functional and fashionable, this watch from Betsy Johnson keeps Charlotte on schedule, with a little fun flare. Ally recommends her Michael Kors Jet Set watch because the tortoise color goes with everything in her wardrobe.

It’s finally fall so we’re back to requesting dark hues at the nail salon. Our rotating classics include Lincoln Park After Dark and Russian Navy by OPI and Wicked by Essie.

We also love a sassy vampy lip this time of year. If you want to splurge, try Chanel Pirate. On a budget, Revlon Fire & Ice is a cult favorite.  Ruby Woo by MAC is right in the middle of the price spectrum and a staple in many gals’ makeup bags.

Now that it’s getting chillier, be sure to moisturize. Our go-to lotions and potions include Kiehl’s BB Cream, Rosebud lip balm, and L’Occitane hand cream.
