From the moment we walked into Slate Wine Bar and Bistro, the service was exceptional. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and then shown to our table. The owner, Elizabeth Banker, and her husband, Managing Director, Danny Lledó, came to our table throughout the evening to explain the different dishes and wine pairings.

We were at Slate Wine Bar and Bistro for their “SOM” Night Pinot Noir Tasting. And taste, we did. The wine didn’t stop.

We started off with the Forrest Estate 2012 from Marlborough, New Zealand. The second wine was the La Follette 2012 from North Coast, CA.  The third wine was the Iris Vineyards 2012 from Willamette Valley, Oregon. The fourth wine was the Rene Bouvier “La Chapitre” 2012 from Burgundy, France. We finished the wine tasting with the Archery Summit Looney Vineyard 2008 from Ribbon Ridge AVA, Oregon.

The menu that accompanied the wine was unique American fare, featuring small plates like duck breast egg rolls and Serrano mac ‘n’ cheese, plus entrees like mussels frites and the Slate Burger. The restaurant also has a great cheese and charcuterie selection.

As an appetizer, we started off with the baked brie with fruit compote and crostinis. My dinner companion and I were in heaven and polished off the entire plate.

For my entrée, I had the seasonal risotto, comprising vegetables with truffle oil and Parmesan. You have the option of adding chicken, shrimp, Ahi tuna, steak, or scallops and I went with the server’s recommendation of scallops. Her suggestion was absolutely spot on and the entire meal was heavenly.

My dinner companion, who is a vegetarian, had the eggplant Parmesan with Mozzarella, tomato sauce, and a balsamic glaze linguini. For dessert, we had the warm chocolate brownie accompanied by a glass of sparkling rose. And what can beat that?
