Side of Style: The Smith Restaurant

We were thrilled when we heard the news that The Smith, the Manhattan restaurant chain of American comfort food, was expanding to Washington. The Smith is a go-to brunch spot for New Yorkers and visitors alike, and the restaurant is very much Bitch-approved. (Read the New York brunch review, here; and the D.C. brunch review, here.)

The Smith is an upscale yet casual brasserie with a black-and-white color palette and modern bistro vibes. We love the long, back-lit bar and the gorgeous light fixtures, as well as the expansive seating for cozy twosomes and large parties.

For brunch at the newly opened location in Penn Quarter, we’d kick it up a notch slightly from our normal casual attire, without sacrificing comfort. We’d stick with a black-and-white color palette, but add a splash of red.

We live in leather (or pleather) skinny leggings all winter, as they are flattering, stylish, and go from day-to-night. We also love these flat, sleek Rag & Bone boots, which are chic and timeless.

We turn to ShopBop and ChicWish for affordable, memorable blouses and love gingham and off-the-shoulder regardless of season. This top is fashion-forward and fun and can take you from winter to summer, when paired with black pants and white, respectively.

We’d accent the look with a small, structured handbag—perhaps a pop of red for punch. In a dream world, we’d have a rainbow of Salvatore Ferragamo bow bags hanging in our closet. We’d add a pom pom for added pizzazz, because pulling together a playful outfit for brunch is half the fun. (Except when you’re hungover.)
