If there’s one way to make the work week go by a bit faster, it’s planning fun things to do after a long day at the office. Of all days, hump day is the day that’s toughest to get through. But Wednesday happy hour deals can certainly lighten the pain.

Masa 14 has a Wednesday event each week that isn’t to be missed: half-priced sushi and discounted (read: $6) cocktails with sake. It’s the perfect dinner-and-a-cocktail mid-week treat that will help you get through the week.

The restaurant’s dimly lit, evening vibe is perfect for drinks with friends. Plus, the restaurant is quite large, so on a weekday there’s generally plenty of seating for walk-ins. I was seated immediately and service was friendly and helpful with menu suggestions.

We ordered one sake sangria and one sake martini to start, and then poured over the sushi menu. If there’s half-price sushi, we want to double our tasting options.

The drinks are definitely something you’re going to want to get your hands on. The sangria was an awesome fusion version of the traditionally Spanish beverage, and the martini was sweet and not overwhelmingly alcohol-flavored.

For our sushi options, we ordered a tuna and salmon hand roll as well as crab and shrimp maki rolls. The rolls arrived at the table as they were made, but it was nice to be able to chat and enjoy them slowly, rather than all at once.

The sushi was tasty, but definitely not a traditional take on Japanese maki and fish preparation. But it’s that fusion vibe that makes Masa 14 satisfy our sushi cravings.

Whether you’re balling on a budget, or just want to make the week a little more bearable, Wasabi Wednesday is easily one of the greatest deals in town.

Masa 14 has Wasabi Wednesday every Wednesday for half priced sushi and $6.00 sake sangrias and martinis. (202) 328-1414
