Kicking off NYC’s summer season at Localbozo.com’s annual Brunch Bash was the perfect start to the influx of festivities to come for me and my cousin Safiya. With a taste to explore all of New York’s greatest brunch eateries, there’s no better way to submerge in decadent flavors from the best restaurants in Manhattan to Brooklyn — all in one room.
Upon entering, we were welcomed with tables upon tables of dishes and spirits to indulge in from the likes of popular restaurants including Chapter One, Socarrat, Calle Dao, and Big Daddy’s. Our first stop — the bottomless Bloody Mary’s from The Wren, which turned out to be a beautiful balance of sweet, tangy, and savory flavors.
With a smorgasbord of some of my favorites brunch dishes, I’d have to side with Big Daddy’s chicken and waffle cone as being my favorite one at the event. Not only was the chicken crispy and succulent, I absolutely admired the creative emphasis of the waffle cone and sweet cherry garnish on top — a great reminder that you’re never too old to enjoy a cone.
We also thoroughly enjoyed the Chocolate Chip banana bread served from The Runner restaurant in Brooklyn. This would pair perfectly with an after brunch vanilla cappuccino.
I couldn’t pass up Socarrat’s famous brunch paella, packed with some great ingredients including chicken, beef, shrimp, and fava beans, topped with a sunny side up egg. It was a burst of incredible flavors and didn’t disappoint.
There was also a variety of bacon to choose from Swine’s ‘flying pig bacon flight’ table — my top pick would have to be the lamb. I’ve never run across more than two ways to enjoy bacon, so this is quite a tasty surprise.
Safiya’s top dish would have to be Poco’s lobster mac & cheese, which she paired with bottomless mimosas. She found herself indulging in a second serving before heading out.
Overall, the event was well organized with a variety of all of my brunch specialities. Of course we had our favorites, but there was not one dish in sight that didn’t fancy our palates. We would’ve especially enjoyed if there were both an indoor and outdoor space to mix, mingle, and enjoy a nice breeze. However, the location was a great space and the crowd was especially outgoing and friendly.
