There is nothing better than escaping Chicago’s unruly weather by entering a chic cafe surrounded by sweet treats. Last week, we scored a sneak peak into the Goddess and the Baker at 33 South Wabash. Here’s an inside look at the loop’s hottest new breakfast spot.
Let’s be honest, the cafe’s motto, “Eat now caffeinate,” is more than fitting for this Bitch who runs on caffeine. While sipping on my artisanal coffee, I was able to take in the chic, modern decor. The vibe is nothing but gourmet and coziness, without any pretension. The communal table that spans the entire cafe, made for a perfect spot sip my java, while snacking on my sugar cookie and bagel.
Unlike their parent company, Goddess and Grocer, the cafe focuses on baked goods, craft coffee, and all-day desserts. I was able to sample their smoked salmon board, which is a step up from the ubiquitous bagel and lox. My favorite munchie was their beautifully decorated sugar cookies. In addition to the cafe staples, they offer globally inspired, gourmet breakfast sandwiches (served until 11 a.m.), salads, sandwiches, and flatbreads at an affordable price.
After saying a quick hello to the brains behind the concept, the charming Debra Sharpe, I headed back into the anything-but-spring weather. This charming bakery and coffee shop is my new go-to for all things sweet, savory, and brunch-related.
