Recap: Bubbles, Bluegrass & Barbecue

It’s been a hot summer. But even in the heat, we’ve made a point of taking full advantage of Washington’s lovely patios this year.

Our friends at The Heights were also in the mood to celebrate the close of summer. So we teamed up the restaurant to throw a low-key shindig on their gorgeous patio in the heart of Columbia Heights.

The theme? Bubbles, Bluegrass & Barbecue. As we Bitches love alliteration—and we most certainly adore all three of those things and apparently words that begin with the letter ‘B’—the combination created a fun and fabulous reason to celebrate.

More than 100 of our friends and readers joined us. Click here to see all the photos and tag your friends. To start, there were bubbles from Winebow, a group that imports the most fabulous Italian wines.

In addition, there were summer cocktails from American Harvest Organic Vodka and a new import from Brazil, Sao Paulo Cachaca. Check out the recipes below!

We loved dancing and bopping to live bluegrass from the Big Hillbilly Bluegrass band, a friendly group of gents led by the fiery Bob Perilla, who regularly play at the brunch at Fireflies out in Del Rey.

The Heights was passing delectable barbecue food. Some of the bites were unbelievably good—we particularly enjoyed the hangar steak kabobs with chimichurri.

Becca donned her favorite cowgirl boots and Cori Sue her favorite summer dress, perfect for picnics, and together we toasted a fabulous summer and the near-end of patio season.

Plus, our guests left with amazing gift bags full of goodies from Winebow and American Harvest, and one lucky guest even won an enormous gift basket from American Harvest.

Thanks to those who joined us. The rest of y’all can enjoy the fall weather at The Heights for brunch or dinner on that gorgeous patio while the weather lasts.
