What happens when you mix delectable, unique dishes with a nice matchup of competitive, talented chefs? The Bitches were ecstatic to find out how something as such could unfold when we were invited to attend a cocktail party to celebrate the premiere of ABC’s hit culinary reality series, The Taste.
We were there for a specific reason: to cheer on our favorite Bitch: Chef Lindsey Becker. Chef Lindsey is a personal chef in Manhattan and the founder of the Date Dish. A close friend of the Bitches, we turn to her for healthy cooking advice and the best recipes to meet every need: date night, brunch recipes, and sweet treats.
Just how intense would Lindsey’s competition be for the third season of The Taste? I was able to catch a sneak peak of it last Tuesday amongst the show’s judges, including chef Anthony Bourdain, British food star Nigella Lawson, expert chef and author Ludo Lefebvre, and award-winning chef Marcus Samuelsson.
Nestled in the heart of Harlem’s nightly treasures, the event took place at Ginny’s Supper Club, a well-renown lounge situated just below the trendy neighborhood’s dining staple, Red Rooster (brunch review here), which also happens to one of chef Marcus’ many accomplished restaurants. If there’s such a feeling of sultry and sophisticated vibes met with a hint of Southern delight all bundled together in New York City, that’s just how I felt when entering this Harlem hideout.
After being greeted with a parade of cocktails and bites, it came as no surprise that the party had been arranged like that of the show— each judge courting their own menu, pairing a specialty drink and custom-made hors d’oeuvres to a crowd of beautifully dressed professionals, who could not only appreciate a nice, stiff cocktail after the day’s hustle-and-bustle, but also the delight of such superb service from the lounge’s wait staff.
I’d have to say that Team Nigella won me over with her Sailor Jerry rum, cinnamon, honey, and citrus-infused cocktail, which was the perfect warm-me-up from the night’s brisk weather. This sweet yet spicy concoction is a definite must-serve for Bitches who plan to cozy up to the fireplace this nippy holiday season, or even a perfect signature drink for guests during your upcoming Christmas cocktail shindig.
One of my favorite servings came from Team Marcus, who warmed me up with a hearty Hamachi with corn and cauliflower puree, a perfect way to prepare my palette for all of the night’s delicate tastings offered. Team Anthony was also on my list of culinary faves, who stunned me with his amazing lamb neck sliders. While being an almighty fan of all-things burger, the choice of lamb was a nice touch. After an abundance of those fabulous sliders, I couldn’t help but to finish my heap of divine culinary pleasures with Team Ludo’s bubbly creation: a signature Belle de Brillet champagne cocktail, instilled with a touch of gin. Burgers and champagne, a pairing made in heaven.
The evening’s festivities were capped off with a preview of the show’s highly-anticipated season, where some of America’s best and undiscovered culinary artists ranging from pro chefs to amateurs cooks, face off their talents to the judges/mentors. What’s the catch in this challenge? The mentors will have to judge the competitors’ dishes blindfolded, having no knowledge of who created it, what they’re eating, the method of preparation, or which chef is at risk of being eliminated.
As a huge lover of culinary reality shows, I’m excited to see what’s in store for the show this season. Huge kudos to Ginny’s Supper Club, ABC, and Kinetic Content for putting on such a fabulous, sexy, and of course, tasty event. We can’t wait to catch the rest of this season’s The Taste.
