More visitors. More trips to the National Mall. Following our 13.1 mile run, my guests and I walked another (achy) 6 miles around all the typical Washington must-sees. It seems this weekend weather was perfect for mass migrations of people. First, Saturday morning, more than 8,000 people joined us in running the National and Half Marathons. Immediately after, we headed to the Capitol, where the tea party protesters gathered against healthcare reform. (Apparently, they weren’t very nice, reports The Washington Post.) Later in the day, we were so fortunate to arrive at The White House seemingly simultaneously with the anti-war protesters and their flags, drum circles, and tie-dye.
Sunday, the lovely weather continued and so did the protests as those seeking immigration reform overtook Capitol Hill. (See the Post story here).
We’ll try to keep this blog free of politics. But, we at Bitches Who Brunch are thankful for the beautiful weather and the freedom of speech our city and our country allow.
Head over to DCist for more great photos of the protests.
