So, I really like to eat. (Hence the website about brunch.)
In high school, dressed in my cross-country uniform, I’d sit alongside my 210-pound linebacker boyfriend with equally sized plates in my mother’s kitchen, as we emptied the fridge like a plague of locusts in whatever Biblical story I don’t know enough about to accurately reference.
In college, my boyfriend told me one of the reasons he loved me is because I liked to eat and could match him bite-for-bite after we shared three entrees and demolished the Great Wall of Chocolate at P.F. Changs. (Uhhhh, thanks, I guess.)
Thankfully, God has blessed me with speedy metabolism. But, more importantly, I like to exercise nearly as much as I like to eat. It’s simple: Food makes me happy and exercise, and the accompanying endorphins, makes me happy.
I love running. I get excited to go lift weights. I may be the only person on the planet that thinks burpees are fun.
Meanwhile, tall-and-slender Becca prefers 20 minutes on the elliptical followed by 40 minutes in the sauna for her workout. Remember when she made fun of my love of exercise?
I also love a challenge.
That’s why I love Balance Gym: It’s five floors of fitness fun and challenges. There’s the cult of Crossfit. But, if you don’t want to join that—there’s spinning, body pump, yoga, Pilates, Dance Trance (the only place in the city to do this fun dance workout) and more. But my favorite is Boot Camp.
As I stumble groggily into the 7 a.m. Boot Camp class, the instructor, a super-handsome rugby player, greets me with an assignment of burpees, push-ups, and lunges. Then, he instructs me to grab a sandbag (I grab 20 pounds) and haul my hungover tail up those five flights of stairs as quick as I can until I think I’ll be ill. And, I am in heaven.
