Is there anything better than brunch for dinner? A few Sundays ago, I made time to relax with my dear friend Tristin. We had a perfect little Sunday of takeout, champagne, and chick flicks. Naturally, we watched both The Notebook and The Holiday. Call us basic, Bitches, but it was a nice little evening.
I’d already eaten brunch once that day—but as I’m not one to deprive myself I chose to have my second meal for a second time. It was January, and freezing, so we used OrderAhead, a delivery app that recently launched in Washington.
OrderAhead delivers from some key restaurants in Washington. Need a burger in a hurry? Pick from Shake Shack, Z Burger, Good Stuff Eatery, and Five Guys. I am a Shake Shack loyalist. There’s also pizza, Mexican, and healthy options like Cava Mezze.
We ordered brunch from GBD Chicken and Doughnuts, and set up a fancy little spread with champers from One Hope Wine and the cutest disposable dishes from Cheeky Home, which is available at Target. I’m a huge fan of these cute, chevron disposable plates, utensils, and coffee mugs to go. It was a snazzy, fun evening that required no more work on our end than ordering on my phone and popping a bottle of bubbly.
For our meal, we ordered en masse: a box of chicken tendies, chicken biscuits, doughnuts, and pickled eggs.
The fried chicken tenders at GBD are great. Hot, moist, and lightly breaded. They’re served with your choice of sauces: honey mustard, Chipotle BBQ, Tartar Sauce, Jerk Sauce, Mumbo Sauce, Buttermilk Ranch, and a few more. But, my favorite is the and Frankenbutter, which is red hot sauce and butter. It’s great on the chicken tenders.
For the doughnuts, we ordered three kinds: maple bacon, apple fritter, and vanilla glazed, which I order every time I visit GBD. The vanilla glazed was still hot when it arrived, which was awesome, and I was angry I had to share. The maple bacon was OK, but the apple fritter was TDF. We tend to think GBD fares better with traditional, reliable doughnuts.
We mistakenly thought that pickled eggs—offered in beet, cider, or British pub style—were like deviled eggs. They were not. They arrived as hard boiled eggs, but with an incredibly strong pickled smell. Intimidated by the stench, neither of us touched the eggs. We should learn how to read menus more closely.
Last but not least, the chicken biscuits were out of this world. The hot flakey biscuits were covered in butter with those same chicken tenders in the middle. Each bite practically melted in your mouth. Now that is my dream sammich. I’m wondering if I can preschedule regular delivery of chicken biscuits on Sunday mornings. Bring me brunch, Bitches.
In the way of brunch, the delivery service can bring you breakfast in bed from GBD, DGS Delicatessen, Matchbox, Commissary, Busboys & Poets, and a place called Wicked Waffle. We’ll certainly be using this more than once. If you order brunch in, tweet at the @BtchesWhoBrunch with the hashtag #bringmebrunch and we’ll share your post!
The Bitches say: GBD is better when ordered ahead—we give it an A- for delivery as we don’t have to deal with the previously grouchy service, or get out of our pajamas in order to eat chicken biscuits.
