This past Sunday, in celebration for the annual James Beard Foundation Awards here in Chicago, the Chicago Bitches partnered with Chateau d’Esclans’ Whispering Angel Rosé to host an spring rosé brunch at the lovely Taus Authentic in Wicker Park.
The James Beard Foundation Awards were held here in Chicago for the second year in a row on Monday night at the Lyric Opera. With so many events to celebrate the awards going on around the city, our influencer brunch was just another way to connect Chicago food lovers over great food and wine. We hosted some of our favorite foodie friends from both instagram and the Chicago food scene, to come and have some rosé with us courtesy of Whispering Angel, and meet our distinguished guest of honor Paul Chevalier from Chateau d’Esclans.
Paul had just hopped on a plane from Miami that morning, and although his flight was slightly delayed, he made it just in time to greet and mingle with guests while pouring his delicious rosé. He then was kind enough to give us a brief introduction to the world of rosé, and explain how to distinguish different types of rosé based on color, taste, and smell. Finally, Paul shared with our gathering of 40 plus food-loving guests, Chateau d’Esclans latest rosé they have added to their collection, the exclusive Rock Angel rosé.
Guests enjoyed light bites courtesy of owner and executive chef, Michael Taus, such as the duck flatbread, ricotta tartes, apricot and walnut scones, a market greens and fennel salad, and a huge charcuterie and cheese spread. The food was delicious and only a taste of the extensive brunch and dinner offering Taus has to offer. The dishes were all excellent choices courtesy of Chef Michael, and complimented Paul’s Rock Angel and Whispering Angel rosé perfectly.
Taus Authentic currently serves brunch on Sundays (review to come!) and will soon be offering brunch on Saturdays as well. Located in the heart of Wicker Park, the space was perfect for entertaining and hosting guests. The bar area looks like a page ripped out of a Restoration Hardware catalogue; gorgeous crystal chandeliers hang above plush couches and leather chairs. The space is industrial, yet warm and inviting, thanks to light colors and a gorgeous fireplace at the front of the restaurant. Huge windows allowed light to peer in, which made for a great atmosphere on a rainy and cold Sunday in Chicago; we just love this space.
Overall, the event was a huge success. A huge thank you to all of those who came out; we hope you left satiated, and maybe a little buzzed. We were so happy to celebrate the James Beard Foundation Awards in a fabulous fashion, and were able to bring two great things together, good food and good wine, in the presence of awesome company.
