Excuse me while I engage in a (brief) shameless plug. Do you like puppies? Ok, cool, me too! As such, I am running the Marine Corps Marathon in October to raise money for the Washington Humane Society (WHS).
You’ve seen the Sarah McLaughlin commercials—there are thousands of abused, neglected, and helpless animals out there—and they need our help. WHS cares for 30,000 unwanted animals each year. Beyond the shelter, WHS has other great programs—including human-animal therapy, spay and neuter clinics, humane education, and Humane Law Enforcement, with officers on staff 24-hours-a-day 7-days-a-week to respond to reports of animal cruelty in the area.
You can (please) donate to my cause here. (If anything, feel sympathy for me as I train in the 100+ degree heat currently consuming Washington—and donate.)
Concurrently, I’m also involved in Fashion for Paws, a D.C. program that “infuses the nation’s capital with cutting-edge high fashion and luxury lifestyle brand events”—culminating in an annual fashion show—and also benefits the Washington Humane Society. Here are some fun events you can attend to help out.
Buy workout gear! Head to Georgetown Running Company this Wednesday, July 28, to stock up on new workout apparel. You get 10% off your purchase and an additional 10% goes to the Washington Humane Society. 3401 M St. N.W., Washington D.C. (202) 337-8626. Open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Get your hair done! One80 Salon, named Allure magazine’s top D.C. salon, is hosting a Fashion for Paws fundraising event August 15. 100% of the proceeds from all salon services go to Fashion for Paws. There will also be a silent auction, raffle, cupcakes, and more. Call to make your appointment now! One80 Salon, 1275 K St. N.W., Suite 101, Washington, D.C. (202) 842-9113.
Happy Hour. Fashion for Paws also hosts super fun dog-friendly happy hours once a month. The last lovely event was at the W Hotel’s patio. I’ll keep you posted on the next one.
