Blank Slate Tea might not immediately come to mind when you think of brunch. Its sister restaurant Blank Slate Coffee + Kitchen is my go-to for coffee meetings in NoMad. Blank Slate Tea is a different story; it’s a millennial tea lover’s paradise. The fast casual spot channels serious Instagram vibes from vibrant matcha teas, floral print walls and Millennial pink leather booths.
Snagging a table is tough as there are just a few. Blank Slate Tea serves a variety of hot and iced teas, toasts, salads and other daytime bites in an adorable setting. We luckily managed to get a table while the line only grew. Teas were in order as we waited for our food.
I ordered a rose matcha latte while my brunch date ordered an earl grey tea latte. Both were served in large tea cups and made with oat milk, appropriate considering the demographic this caters to. The rose matcha tea not only looked gorgeous but tasted even more amazing. The subtle rose notes complemented matcha. The earl grey was equally as good.
The pink-hued establishment even serves a tiered spread for afternoon tea filled with mini sandwiches and bite-sized pastries for sharing. To keep with the pretty in pink theme, the pink hummus toast was a must. The two pieces of toast are perfect for sharing. Beet hummus and goat cheese come atop of country bread, drizzled with pomegranate molasses and sprinkled with black sesame and fresh mint. The flavors certainly measured up to the beautiful presentation.
Avocado and burrata are two of my favorite items, so paired together, it was a no-brainer to order the sandwich. The avo burrata sandwich is enormous and overwhelming to eat. The rosemary focaccia sandwich also comes with roasted tomatoes, basil and topped with a balsamic glaze. Also tasted great and filled us up.
Last but not least, we tried the blueberry lavender waffle. The bright Belgian waffle was such a treat. Lavender and blueberry was a unique combination but came together nicely. To keep with the theme, earl grey syrup is served alongside. The waffle was the perfect size and enjoyed by all.
We weren’t sure what to expect when we saw Blank Slate Tea all over our social media feeds. When it comes to Instagrammable dishes and spaces, we’re generally skeptical that the taste measures up. We’re happy to report Blank Slate Tea is a must-visit for tea lovers, whether you’re dining in or ordering to go. The price points are so unbelievably reasonable we had to check twice.
The Bitches say: Five Champagne flutes for a fast casual experience, beautiful teas and flavorful bites in a Millennial pink paradise.
