We certainly do love food … and pink, and men in pink ties. We also love Cherry Blossom season in Washington. So, we’re looking forward to the the annual Pink Tie Party tonight, a fabulous pink-themed cocktail party with great cuisine held every year to kick off the National Cherry Blossom Festival.

In anticipation of the event, we caught up with Chef Lorena Garcia, who is the chef host of this year’s party. Garcia is a Venezuelan-born chef, restaurateur, TV host and and author and a nationally renowned Latina chef. She’s a judge on NBC’s “America’s Next Great Restaurant” and a guest chef on the season finale of Bravo’s “Top Chef All-Stars,” she also competed on season four of Bravo’s “Top Chef Masters.”

Though she’s based in L.A., she has two traveler’s restaurants: Lorena Garcia Tapas at the Atlanta Airport, and Lorena Garcia Cocina in Miami.


What is your brunch tradition?
Inviting family and friends over for a pool day on a Sunday, usually includes major grilling and a competitive pool volleyball game.

What’s your favorite brunch dish to eat?
My version of Latin breakfast such as arepas, eggs (huevos pericos) smoked salmon, and of course freshly made waffles with fresh fruits, my cappuccino of course! Among many others.

What’s your favorite brunch dish to cook?
Sweet challah French toast filled with berries & chocolate on the grill or my buñuelos or all my marinated grilled meats, hard to choose one!

What are the ingredients that should be in every brunch?
Variety of fresh fruits and breads, eggs, cheeses, good smoked salmon, sausages like chorizo, grilled meats such as churrasco, and chocolate

Favorite brunch cocktail?
A glass of prosecco or caipirinhas

Favorite brunch place on earth?
Culina at the Four seasons hotel Los Angeles.

Why is brunch an important meal?
Because it brings family and friends together in a great casual setting where two of my favorites breakfast and lunch become one.

What are you looking forward to most during the National Cherry Blossom Festival this year?
I have never been in DC during that time, I hear is very magical time, I can’t wait to witness winter turning into spring.
