All Together Now Brunch
by Kirsten Ballard
I have come to the terrible realization that not every weekend can accommodate a boozy brunch. But that doesn’t mean I want to cook either. One such weekend, my boyfriend Cam and I had a morning SoulCycle class, an empty fridge, and afternoon errands that included taking our puppy to the dog beach. We were looking for a fast, tasty post-cycling treat and landed on All Together Now. This cafe has been on my radar since it opened earlier this year. It is a bottle shop, market, and eatery.
After cycling, we got ready and headed to Ukrainian Village to check it out. It’s walk-in only, but there was not a large crowd and we did not have to worry about getting a seat.
If they’re looking for a FRIENDS reboot, All Together Now would be a great set for a group of rag-tag millennials to hang out on the weekends. It’s trendy, great for people watching, and offers lots of seating.
The restaurant now has a bright, light, and casual interior. There is a large communal table, bar seating along the window, and booths. They have cheese, beer, wine, and snacks available for sale, which is a great option if you want to draw your brunch plans into a day-long affair with a picnic at a nearby park.
Cam and I placed our order at the counter. To start with, he ordered a black coffee and I got a Half Acre beer, which is always recommended post-workout.
After ordering, we scoped out the cheeses and wares for sale before getting a seat by the window to wait for the food. It was prime people-watching while we waited, but the service is pretty quick and before long food was coming out.
Up first, we got the sourdough bread that came with butter, a pistachio spread, and honey. The bread had a nice crust while the inside was warm, airy, and light. Honestly, I could eat bread all day, so I was in heaven.
For his main dish, Cam ordered the breakfast sandwich. It was an English muffin, fried egg, cheese, and meat sandwich. While it was a very simple dish, it was prepared well and will fulfill a breakfast craving. It does not come with sides, so we were happy we split the bread to begin with.
I selected the creamed eggs over toast as my main dish, even though we had just had a serving of bread. I cannot be stopped. This plate comes with soft scrambled eggs, pork fat collards, pickled pearl onions and spices over a thick slice of bread. I enjoyed the consistency of the eggs with the toast, but picked out some of the collards because they overwhelmed the dish. After a cycling class, this was a great recovery dish.
