Top Chicago Pie Spots for Pi Day
by Alexis
Thanks to your middle school math teacher we all know that March 14, or 3.14 is the official “Pi Day.” To celebrate, you could dig up that TI-83 calculator that everyone said we would need later in life, or you could just head to one of our favorite spots for pie in the city, and snap shots of the holiday-appropriate desserts with your handy calculator/camera a.k.a your iPhone. We are rolling our eyes just thinking about 8th grade algebra; hand over the pie!
Bang Bang Pie Shop
A cult favorite here in Chicago, Bang Bang Pie Shop tops our list. With two locations in the city (Logan Square and Ravenswood) and a revolving menu of pies such as key lime, chocolate pecan, chocolate chess, tart cherry, you can’t go wrong. Our favorite is hands down the restaurant’s chocolate pecan inside a graham crust.
Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits, 4947 N Damen Ave. Chicago, IL (773) 530-9020 and 2051 N California Ave, Chicago, IL, (773) 276-8888
Hoosier Mama Pie Company
Another Chicago pie staple with a cult following, Hoosier Mama Pie is another one of our favorites thanks to their crispy, flaky, buttery pie crust. Their pie of the month, the chocolate peanut butter crunch pie has potato chips in it, so expect some unique pie options to choose from!
Hoosier Mama Pie Company, 1618 W. Chicago Ave. Chicago, IL, (312) 243-4846 and 749 N. Chicago Ave. Evanston, IL, (847) 868-8863
Spinning J
Ever tried a Blood Orange Negroni Meringue pie? Well now you can. Stop into Spinning J, the Ukrainian Village bakery and soda shop to see their ever-changing pie options for Pi Day and grab a slice of this original. It’s so good, we promise you won’t regret it!
Spinning J, 1000 N. California Ave. Chicago, IL, (872) 829-2793
Sweet Mandy B’s
This bake shop has more than just cupcakes! With over 10 pie flavors to choose from, not to mention seasonal pie offerings, you can’t go wrong with Sweet Mandy B’s. We will be popping in for a huge slice of the banana cream pie.
Sweet Mandy B’s, 1208 W Webster Ave. Chicago IL, (773) 244-1174
Little Goat Diner
Little Goat Diner also offers fresh bakery items daily, among them some delicious pie offerings. We go crazy for their French silk pie made with shortbread crust and bittersweet chocolate.
Little Goat Diner, 820 W. Randolph St. Chicago, IL (312) 888-3455
Baker Miller
After splitting from Bang Bang Pie five years ago, Baker Miller has grown to become a fair rival in the pie department. With classic and original pie flavors to choose from, you’ll be overwhelmed by the options, just make sure to get there before they run out. Our favorite? The chocolate chess pie. If you can’t stop in for Pi Day, we strongly recommend grabbing a slice after brunch.
Baker Miller, 4655 North Lincoln Ave. Chicago, IL (773) 654-3610
