All Week: Fitness
The very first DC Fit Week kicks off today (the Bitches are proud sponsors). Take advantage of free fitness classes all week long and give that New Year’s Resolution a second kick start. In addition to the workouts, there are lots of fun events, including tonight’s happy hour and Friday’s closing party. If you’re still working on your fitness by Friday, check out the National Health & Fitness Expo, which is part of the National Marathon. Though not part of DC Fit Week, the Expo will offer running analysis, seminars, and fitness shopping at D.C. Armory, Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The new Woolly Mammoth show opens tonight, and this one is on track to become one of the theater’s best selling. The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs is a monologue from creator and performer Mike Daisey, and it got rave reviews from its past life in California. Several performances sold out, and they’ve already extended the show through mid-April. So make sure you get tickets early.
Seeing Janet Jackson live is a line item on my bucket list (I mean, the woman is an icon). This Tuesday night, I get my wish, as she’s performing at DAR Constitution Hall. The smaller venue means it’ll be “Up Close and Personal,” and the set list promises all of her number 1s … this is going to be amazing, classic Janet, and I can’t wait. Get tickets here.
Have you seen them? A few Cherry Blossoms are blooming around the District. Officially kick off the flower’s season at the Pink Tie Party Wednesday night at the Mayflower. Hosted by celebrated chef and international restaurateur Richard Sandoval, the fifth annual fundraiser and kick-off to the Cherry Blossom Festival will feature metro D.C.’s top chefs’ delicious cherry- and blossom-inspired cuisine and cocktails. Proceeds benefit the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Tickets are $150, get them here.
There isn’t a bigger Bitch than Joan Rivers. The near-plastic woman herself will be spewing her venom from the stage of the Strathmore in Bethesda Thursday night (with a six-piece band backing her!). From the Borscht Belt to the red carpet, she’ll surely poke fun at men, women, sex, work and show business. Hope you already have your tickets; it’s sold out.
I didn’t get to go to the first BYT “Night at the Newseum” party (I heard there were bars in the elevators), but I’m definitely going to this one. Especially since BYT has officially titled the event “Way Out Of Line,” which sounds like the perfect Friday night to me. Plus, one of my favorite DJs, ESL’s Nickodemus, will be spinning. Get your tickets and join me.
