Holy shit; it’s August.
Like me, you’ve probably spent a summer sighing over an Emily Giffin book, like Something Borrowed, Something Blue—or perhaps you saw that movie last year starring Kate Hudson. Either way, the fabulous chicklit author will be at our favorite boutique today to sign copies of her newest book, Where We Belong. Join the ladies of Urban Chic and Cori Sue at the Georgetown location from noon to 2 p.m. for afternoon tea with the author. Purchase a book and get 20 percent off anything in the store. The first 10 shoppers to spend more than $100 get a custom-designed print, too. Urban Chic Georgetown, 1626 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007.
I know you drink like it’s an Olympic sport. Now make happy hour the playing field. To honor the games, Lincoln restaurant is serving up three hand-crafted Olympic-themed cocktails from now until the closing ceremony. Go for the Gold (Milagro silver tequila, Triple sec, ginger syrup, orange juice), the Silver (Bombay gin, Maraschino cherry liquor, lemon/sour mix, grapefruit juice) or the Bronze (vanilla infused Jack Daniels, homemade root beer). $10 a pop. Lincoln, 1110 Vermont Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20005.
D.C.’s beloved chef Art Smith is competing in Top Chef Masters. Join him and watch the show air Wednesday evening from his restaurant, Art & Soul. He’ll be serving up a crab boil on the patio, and then heading to ArtBar for an extended happy hour and complimentary bar snacks. 9 p.m. (show starts at 10 p.m.). 415 New Jersey Avenue NW, Washington, D.C.
So, it’s August. The heat of summer is sort of oppressive. Is your wardrobe holding up? If not, head to Urban Chic and get a tunic in the Sail to Sable Trunk Show, beginning Thursday and lasting until next Wednesday, August 8. The brand-new line fuses preppy, classic, and chic, and is inspired by the warm weather and the beaches. Get 15 percent off and a free gift with purchase. This is at Urban Chic’s Baltimore location only.

Hit up the Midcity Dog Days sidewalk festival and sales, encompassing all the boutiques and restaurants in the 14th and U Street corridor. I’ll be there shopping for new furniture for my condo. Then, break for brunch at Policy (1904 14th Street NW). The restaurant just started serving fabulous summer cocktails on tap (yes, you heard me right). It’s the perfect refreshment to accompany brunch.
