This Week in NYC: Oct. 13-19

Happy Columbus Day! For those of us in NYC not working government jobs like our DC buddies, we’ll be spending this public holiday at our desks and avoiding the parade traffic on Fifth Avenue. Although you most likely do not have a short work week, there’s still a variety of fun social events in the city that’ll make the time fly by. Here’s what we’re looking forward to this week:

Whenever I walk the High Line, I make an effort to stop by STORY, a unique retail space that has the point of view of a magazine, changes like a gallery and sells like a store. STORY’s theme changes every six to eight weeks so it never gets old. The current theme is Style.Tech, which explores the intersection of fashion and technology. Tonight they are hosting a free event from 5-7 p.m. where you can get your #selfie portrait sketched by Instagram’s most famous illustrator, Donald Robertson. Custom illustrations are first come, first served but you can shop and sip complimentary martinis by the mixologists behind Hella Bitter in the meantime. RSVP to 144 10th Ave, New York, NY

Craft spirit lovers, celebrate Tuesday Boozeday with the third annual Caskers Craft Spirits celebration at Houston Hall in the West Village. Guest can sample unlimited craft spirits from more than 20 distilleries, plus signature cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Get your hands dirty with cocktail-making classes from expert mixologists and even get a free lift to or from the event courtesy of Uber. Limited general admission tickets are $50. More information here. 222 W Houston St, New York, NY

If you grew up with classic teen flicks like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink on repeat, don’t miss starlet Molly Ringwald’s cabernet performance this week at Café Carlyle in the Upper East Side. Tickets start at $50 for the bar and $70 for general seating. More information here. 35 E 76th St, New York, NY

We can’t get enough of C.Wonder’s bright apparel and darling home accessories, so even better if we can get it at a discount. Check out the retailer’s sample sale today beginning at 10 a.m. at Splashlight Studios. 260 5th Ave, New York, NY

Two weeks from today marks Edible Manhattan’s Edible Escape Tasting Event, featuring the best dishes and drinks from around the world in an effort to highlight international and local travel destinations. We are so excited to announce that we have two tickets to give away to our readers! Follow us on Twitter at @bwbrunchnyc and tweet us your favorite travel destination for a chance to win! Th, Oct 30 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. 110 West 19th St. New York, NY

If you’re looking for an intimate fall getaway, get in touch with nature but don’t exactly rough it. Glamping has officially hit New York with Firelight Camps in Ithaca. This glamorous camping experience has tents with hardwood floors, king sized beds and communal campfires with local wine, spirits, and homemade s’mores. Book now as space is quickly filling up! Emily is heading to Firelight next weekend so stay tuned for her review. 1150 Danby Rd, Ithaca, NY

If a brisk 3.1-mile run on a Saturday morning isn’t your cup of tea, would you run for cupcakes? Try the NYC Cupcake Run at Astoria Park, beginning promptly at 11 a.m. Participants stop to eat three cupcakes at various checkpoints around the course. A portion of this second annual event will benefit New York Cares. Register here. Astoria Park, Ditmars Boulevard between 19th S. and Shore Boulevard

Dimes Brunch

Close out your weekend with a delicious brunch! We recently loved Bitch-approved Jacob’s Pickles in the Upper West Side for decadent, down home Southern fare or try Dimes in Chinatown for cheap, healthy brunch bites.
