This Week In NYC: May 8-14

After a bit of rainy weather over the weekend, we’re ready to tackle the upcoming week and all its fun events. From wine and beer tastings to free fitness classes, there’s plenty going on in the Big Apple to keep everyone busy.

Cure your Monday blues with a glass (or several!) of delicious wine. Check out the latest edition of Compagnie’s wine tasting series, Wine Mixtape, which is an informal, free-form wine tasting featuring eight vinos. This session is hosted by Jordan Salcito, the director of wine special projects at Momofuku and founder of Bellus Wines. Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels, 249 Centre St., New York, NY. 9:30 p.m.

Summer is right around the corner, and you’re running out of time to get your bikini body ready. Fitness classes in NYC can be costly, but thankfully the Meatpacking Business Improvement District and The Wellth Collective have teamed up to offer free classes every Tuesday, beginning today and running through August. Classes will range from yoga and pilates to boxing and bootcamps, and they’re all located outside at Hudson River Park’s 14th Street Park. W. 14th St. & 10th Ave., New York, NY. 6 p.m.

You’ve probably been to Little Italy in Manhattan already, but did you know there’s also a vibrant Little Italy in the Bronx too? Explore this lesser-known culinary center with one of Inside Out Tours’ educational excursions, where you’ll get to see authentic Italian bakeries, specialty shops, fish markets, butcher shops, and more. You’ll also visit the thriving business district of Little Italy to sample culinary treats and learn all about the area’s rich history. Grand Central Station, New York, NY (meeting place). 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Manhattan Cocktail Classic — a seven-day long spirits festival — kicks off tonight with a gala at Central Park’s famed Loeb Boathouse. This black-tie cocktail ceremony is the perfect excuse to get dressed up and enjoy a few drinks. Loeb Boathouse, E. 72nd St., New York, NY. 7 p.m.

A ticket to the 4th annual Five Boro Craft Beer Fest gets you access to a fun-filled night of beer, food, and live music. There will be more than 100 craft beers to sample, and tasty treats to keep you fueled up. What a great way to kick off the weekend! The Well, 272 Meserole St. Brooklyn, NY. 6:30 p.m.

Good coffee on a Saturday morning is a must, and that’s exactly what you’ll get — plus a whole lot more — at CoffeeCon NYC. This event, the world’s first consumer coffee conference, features a tasting floor, top coffee experts, tasting seminars, demos, and hands-on labs. Come get your caffeine fix while learning a thing or two about your favorite morning beverage. Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W. 18th St., New York, NY. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Today is Mother’s Day! If you forgot to get mom a gift — don’t worry. You can still give her the best gift of all: brunch! See our Mother’s Day brunch guide for some mom-approved recommendations.
