This Week in NYC: June 30 – July 6

After an unexpected and very emotional trip to England last week, I’m happy to be back home and counting down the days standing in between me and my upcoming beach vacation. There’s no better time to be on American soil than the 4th, a day that has always represented everything I love about summer.

I hope all of you have plans filled with suntans, festive drinks, Bruce’s patriotic tunes, and red, white and blue lighting up the sky. Whether you’re bracing the city heat for a rooftop fireworks soiree, or joining me at the ocean, the Bitches hope you have a happy holiday. Here’s your social calendar for all those days standing in between you and and the long weekend.

Today, Root and Bone makes its grand debut in the East Village. Chefs Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth, famous for their success at Yardbird, a hotspot Miami restaurant with Southern cuisine, have headed North to bring their talents to New York City. Try the fried chicken! 200 East 3rd St. New York, NY.

Another notable restaurant, Ariel’s Tapas, opens today, on E Houston, offering Latin American fare. 293 East Houston St. New York, NY

It’s hard to believe it’s already the first Wednesday of July! Celebrate at STK Midtown’s #PatioPalooza, for live djs, drink specials, and summer shenanigans. Doors open at 6 p.m. 1114 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY.

In celebration of the 4th of July, South Street Seaport will be hosting a Pier Party for three full days, starting today. The party will feature live music, outdoor cinema, and of course, the famous city fireworks.  11:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. 199 Water St. New York, NY.

Happy Independence Day. There a lot of different ways for you to spend your day off; check out our top ideas below.

In the daytime, check out Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island. Because nothing says Independence Day quite like binge eating this true American specialty. Entertainment begins at 10 a.m., but we suggest you stay and beach after since you’ve made the trip out there.

After you gussy up in your red, white, and blue, scope out a good spot to watch the Macy’s Fireworks, using this guide.

Time to nurse your Independence Day hangovers with an epic breakfast sandwich at Cafe Cluny brunch. Cafe Cluny serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m284 West 12th St. New York, NY.
