This Week in NYC: January 5-11

Welcome 2015! By now, we hope you’ve begun to detox from the holidays and are ready to get back into the hustle and bustle of the city. We’re facing freezing cold temperatures this week, so all the more reason to hunker down indoors with a variety of happenings in New York City.

An improv night from infamous company The Moth has long been on my NYC bucket list. Tonight, The Moth presents StorySLAM!, a popular storytelling series that challenges participants to weave a tale based on a certain theme. Pro tip: come to The Bell House venue early in the East Village as spots go quickly. 149 7th St, New York, NY

Kick off your week on a healthy note with a quality sweat session at a local boutique studio. I recently got my booty kicked, in the best way, at a high intensity interval training class at Drill Fitness in TriBeCa. Don a heart rate monitor to track your progress and encourage some friendly interclass competition. Read our full review here136 Church St, New York, NY

For a casual night in, be a Bitch in the kitchen and whip up a nutritious meal at home. Try Emily’s recipe for brown rice risotto with mushrooms or roasted sweet potatoes with sour cream and crispy shallots.

Jazz lovers, rejoice. Winter Jazzfest begins today with a two-day music marathon in Greenwich Village. The event has been bringing jazz music to the New York City streets since 2005. Tickets start at $35 for a day pass featuring 100+ groups in 10 venues. More information here.

Date night just got trendier with the opening of a new pizza speakeasy in NoHo. That’s right…a pizza speakeasy. The pizza parlor is tucked inside of Espoleta, a tapas restaurant, and can be found behind a door labeled “no vacancy” near the tapas bar. The ‘za menu changes daily and the pies are prepared Neapolitan style with a wood-burning oven. Here’s more information courtesy of Time Out New York.  334 Bowery, New York. NY

Circus is more than just a great Britney Spears’ jam. Check out Circus Now, a three day circus spectacular that features a variety of carnival performers from around the world from aerobics to aerialists. More information here. 566 La Guardia Pl, at Washington Square South,  New York, NY

Celebrate Sunday Funday with a delicious, Bitch-approved brunch. We recently enjoyed fine dining at Public in Nolita and David Burke at Bloomingdale’s in Midtown East.
