This Week in NYC: February 29-March 6

Yesterday’s weather was a total tease. I spent most of the day removing my various winter layers while basking in the sun in between building shadows, and it was glorious. It was a hint of the fun this spring is going to bring (am I jinxing us?). Our picks for a hopefully warmer week ahead!

Tonight, I’ll be judging the Bloody Mary Mix Down in Williamsburg, where Brooklyn’s best bartenders will show off their most delicious Bloody Mary recipes at the third annual Bloody Mary Mix Down. Each borough has its own contest, and winners go on to compete at the NYC Hot Sauce Expo in Greenpoint in April. More info here. 8 p.m., Over the Eight Bar 594 Union Ave. Brooklyn

Meet Fern Mallis, the creator of New York Fashion Week, as she presents her new book, “Fashion Lives: Fashion Icons with Fern Mallis.” Get a copy of the book, which includes interviews with fashion luminaries like Donna Karan and Marc Jacobs, signed after the presentation. 6 p.m., Fashion Institute of Technology Katie Murphy Amphitheatre 227 W. 27th St.

The Wayfarer’s executive chef Chris Shea and celebrity chef David Burke are teaming up to host a cooking class and special six-course dinner of updated American classics. Learn how to cook a few new dishes from the pros, and then indulge in delicious end results. De Gustibus 151 W. 34th St.

Bumble users, get ready to meet some of your potential matches in real life. By showing that you have the app on your phone at one of the six participating bars throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn, you get a free drink during happy hour. For more info, click hereMultiple Locations

A ticket to Wine Riot gets you an all-access pass to hundreds of new wines under one roof. Sample these wines while exploring interactive booths and taking crash courses taught by experts that’ll teach you how to conquer the wine world. Don’t forget to download the event’s app that’ll allow you to save the wines you tried and purchase them later. 69th Regiment Armory

Forget about traditional bar crawls. At the second annual NYC whiskey walk, you can visit eight bars in downtown Manhattan and enjoy whiskey prepared by each venue’s head mixologist. Multiple locations.
