This Week In NYC: April 3-9

Spring is in the air, and the new season always brings about a plethora of fun events. Below, we’ve highlighted our favorites for the week.

Don’t forget to get your tickets to NYC’s Miss Amazing Pageant on April 15. Join Miss Amazing, a non-profit organization that aims to empower young women and girls with disabilities, for an incredible event featuring a talent show and more starring 20 women and girls from throughout the state of New York. Not only does the pageant promote sportsmanship, poise, and public speaking, it also helps participants create friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. The Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway, 6:30 p.m.

Need inspiration to do some spring cleaning? Join Fumio Sasaki, author of “Goodbye, Things: The New Japanese Minimalism,” at Japan Society tonight for a discussion about how he opted for minimalism over materialism. Filmmaker Matt D’Avella, whose latest piece of work, “Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things” explores the cultural movement of simple living, will moderate the event. The discussion will be followed by a book signing and reception. Japan Society, 333 East 47th St., 6:30 p.m.

Check out NYC’s premier underground art show — The NYC Pancakes & Booze Art show — where you can indulge in booze, breakfast food, and of course, art. See the work of more than 150 emerging visual artists, hit up the free pancake bar, have a few drinks, and enjoy live body painting at this one-of-a-kind event. M1-5 Lounge, 52 Walker St., 7 p.m.

Brooklynites, there’s a new coffee shop in town, and you need to check it out ASAP. Today marks the opening day of East One Coffee Roasters in Carroll Gardens. Combining exceptional coffee with approachable food, this eatery is inspired by the Australian model of an all-day cafe and is a must next time you’re in the neighborhood. Menu highlights include the Broccolini Scramble, American Burrata, and Pozole Verde. East One Coffee Roasters, 384 Court St.

Garden of Eatin’, a popular brand of natural and organic tortilla chips, is launching two new flavors, and you’re invited to the celebration. Head to Brooklyn Brewery tonight taste the new flavors — Ranch and Nacho — with Garden of Eatin’ and a beer from the brewery. There will also be a fun photo booth, so you can take pictures with all your friends. Brooklyn Brewery, 79 N. 11th St., Brooklyn, NY, 6-9 p.m.

New season, new wardrobe! Update your closet with designer goods without breaking the bank at Gilt’s massive sample sale. In addition to deeply discounted apparel, shoes, handbags, and home decor from brands including Balenciaga, Prada, Valentino, John Varvatos, and Paul Smith, Gilt’s sale will feature onsite styling, alterations and tailoring, craft cocktails, free mini facials and makeup applications, a DJ, and plenty more. 415 5th Ave., 9 a.m.
