Find Brunch Right Now

This Week in DC: Oct. 27-Nov. 1

Happy fall! Gather your pumpkins—your gourds and your nearest and dearest—because there’s plenty of Halloween fun to be had in D.C. this week. Or if you don’t have a pumpkin yet, call Urbanstems. Our favorite flower boys are delivering pumpkins on demand with their fall bouquets. Perfection for $15.

Start the week on the right foot with a class at VIDA Fitness U Street or Metropole. I’ll be in the 7 a.m. spinning class, for sure. Then head around the corner to PRESS for fresh juice drinks or smoothies. Because a vitamin-packed green juice is the perfect way to start your morning. 1630 14th Street NW.

In the evening, head to Marvin on U Street to check out its totally revamped fall menu. The classic restaurant (who doesn’t love its epic roofdeck?) is now serving up lovely fall treats like a pumpkin creme caramel and apple walnut cake, complete with apple compote and vanilla ice cream. Yum. 2007 14th St NW.

Tuesday evening, head to Commissary for its epic $2 happy hour. Every Tuesday, get $2 drafts, including Allagash, New Belgium Fat Tire, Devil’s Backbone, and Yuengling. It’s by far the best happy hour on P Street. Plus, there’s $4.50 cocktail specials daily,  $5.75 Makers Mark, Green Hat, Dobel, and American Harvest; $4 Sangria; $4 Natty Boh Combos. 1443 P St NW.

Satellite Room is hosting “Shaking It Up,” a charity event benefiting Martha’s Table and featuring neighborhood celebrity bartenders Eric Hilton, Seth Hurwitz of the 9:30 Club, Ben Olsen, head coach of D.C. United, and Svetlana Legetic of BYT (attempting to) creating cocktails and pouring beers. The event takes place Wednesday from 6-9pm. The event is free and open to the public and specialty drinks will be available for consumption as well. 2047 9th St NW.

Happy Halloween! There are plenty of fun options to celebrate out on the town, including the always-fun Nightmare on M Street. We’ll be at the VIDA Fitness Penthouse Pool’s Halloween Costume Party. The pool club is giving away more than $1,000 worth of prizes for best costumes. The party will be 7 p.m. to midnight and all VIDA members and their guests are welcome. RSVP to

The W Washington DC will host its annual Halloween Social at POV Friday from 8pm to 2am. The “Best Costume” winner will receive a sleepover package in one of W Washington DC’s Wow suites and breakfast in bed. Tickets are $40, get them here. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Luke’s Wings. 515 15th St NW.

Several restaurants have snazzed up their Saturday brunch, recently. Ping Pong Dim Sum just launched its East West brunch, priced at $36 per person. The new menu features unlimited dim sum brunch selections, choice of one “east west” brunch entree, and unlimited table-side mimosa bar or non alcoholic beverages. Two locations in Washington, one in Dupont and one in Chinatown.

Russian resto Mari Vanna launched a new menu this week and the brunch this Saturday begins with an unlimited build-your-own Bloody Mary Bar for $12 every Saturday. 1141 Connecticut Ave NW.

Mio Restaurant, the Puerto Rican/Latin hot spot now serves up the best of Puerto Rican cuisine with influences from Latin metropolises such as Puerto Rico, Lima, Ciudad de México, Caracas, La Havana, and San Juan crafted by Executive Chef Roberto Hernandez. Saturday brunch service is from 11am to 3pm. 1110 Vermont Avenue, NW.

Saturday night, celebrate the Day of the Dead at our favorite Mexican spot, Casa Oaxaca. The restaurant has an incredible special menu for the holiday, and there will be a full-on celebration with complimentary face painting and a special happy hour from 4 to 7pm on Saturday. Can’t make it for dinner? The restaurant is also starting its new brunch menu on Saturday.

Brunch, of course. Lately we’ve loved Tico, Del Campo, and Michel Richard’s Central.
