This Week in DC: July 7-13

We hope your July Fourth weekend was as epic as ours. Cori Sue celebrated her birthday in Chicago, and I kicked it in Washington, enjoying the absolutely superb weather at the Penthouse Pool. It was the perfect weekend for a little D.C. R&R. Here’s to a fabulous first week in July. Make the best of summer!

Catch a Nats game Monday or Tuesday evening. It will be the perfect night for it! Our team will be playing the Baltimore Orioles at 7 p.m. both nights. Head to Navy Yard for an evening of baseball, beer, and plenty of great food. Their next game isn’t until July 18, so don’t miss Monday or Tuesday’s chance. Get tickets here.

The Capital Fringe Festival opens on Thursday. On Tuesday, the event organizers are hosting a special preview party. Head there at 10:30 p.m. or later for music from Eastern European brass bands, New Orleans jazz, Indie rock, and even Appalachian twang. The event promises a bit of everything. It’s free to attend. Get more information here.

Start July feeling pampered and perfect with a spa treatment at Aura Spa. On weeknights, VIDA Fitness members get 15 percent off massages or facials, which is a deal that you cannot miss. Plus, get a complimentary chemical peel when you sign up for a Sea C Spa Vitamin C facial. Spa guests also receive 10 percent off GM Collin Vitamin C products, which are to die for. Aura Spa has three locations, click here.

Head to my favorite Italian restaurant, Lavagna, for Thursday evening dinner. The Barracks Row hotspot has an amazing wine list and a new summer menu, featuring organic farm-to-table ingredients. 539 8th St SE.

Downtown D.C.’s newest hotel restaurant, Rural Society, just recently opened, and we’ve been hearing great things. Try the Argentinian steakhouse for a Friday or Saturday night dinner. Celebrity Chef Jose Garces will be in Washington from his native Philly this week. The Loews Madison Hotel restaurant is offering plenty of meat from its wood-fired grill. 1177 15th Street NW.

Celebrate the opening night of “Carrie: The Musical” with a movie viewing party at Commissary on P Street. Movie starts at 10 p.m. Saturday evening. Wear your favorite tiara to win prizes and get Carrie-inspired cocktails. Can’t make the party? Check out Carrie-inspired cocktails at The Pig, Logan Tavern, and Commissary through the August 3 closing.

Don’t miss the World Cup Final, which is playing right after brunch at 3 p.m. EST. We recommend snagging brunch at a place with epic televisions or projector screens. Try Piola or Casa Oaxaca.
