It’s December and the holidays are in full swing! We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are ready to dive into festive activities all this week. Here are our picks, including a fun run and brunch that we’re hosting (and you’re invited to!) this Sunday.

Get your Christmas tree at Sixth Engine and you’ll not only raise money for the DC Firefighters Burn Foundation, but you’ll enjoy hot chocolate and Christmas cookies while you shop. The pub’s patio has gorgeous Fraser Fir and Douglas Fir trees, stands, wreaths, garland, and collectible ornaments. Plus, all tree purchases get a special gift to redeem at Sixth Engine 438 Massachusetts Avenue NW.

ZooLights, the National Zoo’s annual holiday event, is in full force this week and through the rest of the month. Head there for an evening stroll to see more than 500,000 environmentally friendly LED lights draping trees and creating animal illuminations. Food is available for purchase while you’re there. Admission is totally free. 3001 Connecticut Avenue NW.

Wednesday is for whiskey and the Washingtonian is definitely on point with its “On the Rocks” annual event. Guests will enjoy a live DJ, delectable fare from Union Market’s vendors and Amphora Catering, and sips of premium whiskey, Scotch, malt, bourbon, rum, vodka, gin, tequila, and much more. Tickets are $65, get them here. The Maurice Electric Warehouse at Union Market, 500 Penn St NE.

Thursday evening is the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, where nationally known entertainers and a military band perform and the President brings a message of peace to the nation and the world. Free tickets are distributed each year through an online lottery. Weren’t lucky enough to apply and snag a seat? Watch it live on TV. The event is held rain or shine.

If you haven’t started your holiday shopping yet, you should head to Tysons Galleria, where there are tons of great promotions and funtivities happening this week. Get free delivery of your in-mall purchases, get your (or your pup’s) photo with Santa, and enjoy the winter music series on the weekends. Plus, there’s plenty happening for good, too. Gift wrapping donations benefit FAIR Girls and a Giving Tree will be set up to donate a gift to a child at Fairfax County Foster Care & Adoption.

Beer or wine? There’s an option for whichever you prefer.

Greenhill Winery & Vineyards is hosting Chef Cathal Armstrong of Restaurant Eve for a holiday book signing event on Saturday afternoon from 3:30 to 6:30 at The Manor House, 23595 Winery Lane, Middleburg, Va.
