This Week in Chicago: May 18-24

Throw on those sunnies and dine al fresco for lunch, Bitches! This beautiful day in Chicago calls for an outdoor happy hour, or a lunch outside. This weather better be here to stay, as we sure are looking forward to the holiday weekend ahead. But first, let’s see what’s in store this week.


Burgers & beer are the perfect match, so we’re starting this week off at Troquet River North with a Two Brothers Brewing Company beer dinner.  This includes four sliders that perfectly pair with a flight of four Two Brothers beers, all for just $20. Japonais by Morimoto hosts Brice Cutrer Jones and Mari Jones, owners of Emeritus Winery in the Russian River Valley region for a 4-course dinner paired with wines from Emeritus. The Jones will walk guests through the pairings along with Chef Hisanobu Osaka. Tickets are $150 per person. Cocktails and dinner start at 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. respectively. The Bitches are sure loving their sushi this week. Arami holds “Sushi 101” classes, where guests learn how to prepare sushi rice, proper knife practices for slicing tuna and salmon, and various techniques of sushi making. We’re letting the pros do all the work outside while Lagunitas hosts a beer dinner for Chicago Craft Beer Week at 6 p.m. The CCBW Memorial Grill Out / BBQ Beer Dinner will take place on the outdoor patio of Howells & Hood. There will be seven food courses, served alongside six different craft beers from Lagunitas Brewing. Cheers!

Inspired by the James Beard award-winning series, the Key Ingredient Cook-Off invites guests to taste and vote for nearly two dozen dishes created by local chefs using one of five secret ingredients featured in past columns. This year’s chefs include Sarah Rinkavage of Lula Cafe, Elissa Narow of Perennial Virant, and John Asbaty of White Oak Tavern & Inn. The night also includes specialty cocktails, wine and beer, a photo booth, and music from Windy City Soul Club. General admission is $65. Logan Square restaurant and music venue Township has added a variety of new items to their brunch menu. Township serves brunch Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The brunch menu consists of healthy meals made with local, natural and organic ingredients. Beer + brunch makes us happy campers! Atlas Brewing is serving beer pancakes with bacon syrup.  Starting Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Atlas Brewing  Company will serve an Bavarian Inspired Beer Brunch  in celebration of craft beer week.
