This Week In CHI: June 13-19

Our summer calendars are really starting to fill up, but that doesn’t give us any reason to slow down.  We have three months of summer bliss here in Chicago, and we want to soak up every minute of it, and spend our time doing the best activities. Take a look at what we are looking forward to this week.

For three nights each week, some of the Chicago’s best jazz artists and combos take the stage at the Whistler for a free set (or two). The Whistler is a bar, gallery, record label, and venue that hosts live music and DJs seven nights a week, and also is home to an award-winning cocktail program.  Sunday through Tuesday you can come for awesome jazz music; check out the full schedule on the Logan Square bar’s website. Show up early to grab a seat (they fill up quick) and grab a cocktail before settling in for a relaxing evening of music. Up tonight? The Nick Broste Trio. For more information, click here.

Taco Tuesday! We are down to try two new taco joints that opened in the last month here in Chicago. First, we are anxious to try Broken English Taco Pub, a Mexico City-style taqueria at Lake and Michigan featuring 20 different tacos. From the minds of Adolfo Garcia and long-time restaurateur, Phil Stefani, this taco place has been getting lots of love. $5 margaritas, and $3 tacos? Where do we sign up!? For more information, click here.

Seoul Taco, the St. Louis favorite, has made its way to Chicago and we could’t be more excited. Located in the former Mercadito counter space on Clark Street, David Choi has brought his awesome-ness to our city. The Korean-Mexican restaurant offers its namesake Seoul tacos with a choice of four fillings, topped with Korean salad and a Choi’s secret “Seoul Sauce”. Not only are we confident it tastes amazing, we are certain it will make for some pretty awesome Instagram #foodporn. For more information, visit here.

The Rooftop Cinema Club is here in Chicago for the week! Come join classic movie lovers alike and check out their awesome roof top feature film series at the DoubleTree by Hilton. Wednesday’s showing will feature The Breakfast Club, but be sure to check the full schedule to find out showings for other awesome films, like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, My Best Friends Wedding, The Big Lebowski, and more. To celebrate the release summer seasonal, the Retrofit lime radler featuring Key lime juice, the public can join the Burnt City brewing team for the Radler Ramble, a bar crawl through Logan Square on Thursday, June 16. The event kicks off at Webster’s Wine Bar (2601 N. Milwaukee Ave.) at 8 p.m., continues to The Radler (2375 N. Milwaukee Ave.) at 9 p.m., and makes a last stop at Emporium (2363 N. Milwaukee Ave.) at 10 p.m. Each bar features Retrofit lime radler on tap or in cans, as well as a specially selected shot pairing to accompany the beer. No cover; drinks at cost. Taste of Randolph is here and we are so excited. It is truly one of our favorite summer festivals here in Chicago and it is celebrating it’s 20th Anniversary this year. Attendees can expect 30+ DJs, bands, and artists as the sonic guide to a culinary adventure through the best food and drink Chicago has to offer.  Taste of Randolph brings Chicago’s most delicious dining to the same street as the artists like Peter Bjorn & John, MS MR, and Atlas Genius, among other awesome acts. Dine on the decadence of Gus’ Fried Chicken, savor the delicious flavor of Hello Tacos, indulge in the refreshing sweetness of Cone Gourmet, all while dancing the night away to their favorite acts. Happy Pride Everyone! June is Pride month, but here in Chicago, Pride kicks off with this weekend 47th Annual Pride Festival. Over half a million people flock to the streets of Boystown to celebrate the LGBTQ community, and we can’t wait to join them. The two day festival takes place along Chicago’s famed Halsted strip on Saturday, June 18, 2016 and Sunday, June 19, 2016, while the parade doesn’t take place until the following Sunday. Come celebrate all things PRIDE in one of Chicago’s most treasured neighborhoods, and meet us at Hydrate for a drink!  For more information on all things Pride festival and parade, click here.

Also on Saturday, the pet-friendly Hotel Lincoln is hosting a pet adoption and coffee takeover!  Located in Chicago’s storied Lincoln Park neighborhood, expands its support of local pet shelter One Tail at a Time  with an Adoptable Dog Meet & Greet in the lobby on from noon- 2 p.m. Guests and animal lovers are welcome to join in spending time with adoptable dogs and learn about all of the ways One Tail at a Time is saving lives. In addition, Grounds & Hounds – a fair trade organic coffee company that donates 20% of its proceeds to no kill rescue organizations – will partake in a roaster takeover at Elaine’s Coffee Call the same day to coincide with the Adoptable Dog Meet & Greet.
