This Week in CHI: Feb. 20- 26

It might be the middle of February in Chicago, but we are full-on ready for spring thanks to the amazing 60 degree weather we experienced this weekend here in the city. High off of the unusually warm temps, we are ready to take advantage of the shorts weather!

Additionally, we will be spending our evening Bayside-style at Saved By the Max! Spano may or may not be your man-o, but come join in the fun by raising money this President’s Day at a dinner party at the Wicker Park hot-spot, benefitting the ACLU. The evening will feature a limited a la carte dinner menu, $5 cocktails, $5 house wine and $3 Goose Island 312s and IPAs. Chicago Somm Slam returns. Come watch as top Chicago sommeliers battle in five course-by-course duels at Beacon Tavern, and guests decide who will be named the 2017 Chicago Somm Slam Champion. Jon McDaniel, Beverage Director and Sommelier for Acanto, Beacon Tavern, Coda Di Volpe, The Dawson and The Gage, will host the evening and Executive Chef Bob Broskey of Beacon Tavern will craft the five-course dinner. On Wednesday, SideDoor, the American-style gastropub housed in the former McCormick Mansion adjacent to Lawry’s The Prime Rib, will host a paired wine dinner in partnership with The Prisoner Wine Company. Beginning at 7 p.m., John Samaritano of Prisoner Wine Company will lead guests through the dinner, highlighting four unique California wines paired with four courses curated by SideDoor Executive Chef Leonard Delgado. Menu items will include short rib gyoza, ricotta gnocchi, and an American Wagyu coulotte. The dinner is $110 per person,, and includes four courses with wine pairings. Seoul Taco will be serving up its popular Korean-Mexican cuisine this Thursday for a great cause,at the Crushers Club Benefit Gallery. The event will showcase a documentary screening from Eikon Creative, and a photo gallery of the South Side boxing club by DW Johnson, which provides children a safe haven from the gun violence affecting Chicago. The event is open to the public with a $20 admission, which includes a documentary screening and photo gallery of the Chicago boxing gym, drinks, and tacos. All proceeds benefit Crushers Club. Friday, celebrate Mardi Gras early by indulging in Italian wine and Venetian specialties by celebrating Carnevale at Eataly! With your ticket, enjoy bars of Italian fare spread throughout our restaurants, such as cicchetti, fresh pasta and risotto, housemade focaccia, fresh mozzarella, and bugie (fried dough pastries sprinkled with powdered sugar.) Life is too short to drink bad wine. Taste, sip and “unwine” at River North Wine Fest! It’s Oscar Night! We are so excited to watch the 89th Academy Awards and see our favorite actors and actresses walk the red carpet and win the coveted award. We are looking forward to celebrating in style at Troquet River North’s Oscar viewing party.
