This Week in CHI: August 15 – 21

Just because August is winding down does not mean the events are. We have even more rooftops, patios, and festivals to be excited about this week. So, grab your best pair of heels, your favorite summer dress, and hit the town. Here’s what’s happening this week in Chicago.


Start your week of right and grab dinner at The Loyalist. Caffe Umbria is celebrating a new patio opening! Come to the happy hour from 3 to 6p.m. this Wednesday. Chicago Park District only has a couple weeks left of Movies in the Park. Come to Wrightwood Park to watch Chris Pratt and Jessica Chastain take on dinosaurs in Jurassic World. BATSU is a new live Japanese game show experience that is happening every Thursday and Friday at Kamehachi. With events like giant egg-smashing, hilarious jaw-dropping punishments, this show is not to be missed. This comedic, and interactive, game show is like no other you have seen. The 58th Air and Water Show kicks off at 10 a.m. this Saturday. This free show is presented by Shell Oil products, so take advantage and head to North Avenue Beach to see the sites. Kanela’s in Old Town is offering a special “French Toast Flight” in honor of the 58th Show. This Old Town restaurant let’s you pair your flight of lemon poppy seed, red velvet, banana nut and orange bread french toasts with one of Kanela’s signature summer cocktails. Miller Lite Beer Garden on Navy Pier is offering you the hottest viewing spot for the Water Show. Open on Saturday and Sunday, live music, and frozen drinks makes this the place to go. If you are looking for a bite during the show check out Chicago Air and Water Pop Up Sandbar Beer Garden. This pop up beer garden is located on the Northeast corner of North Avenue Beach. It will be open for 10:30am – 3:30 pm. You will can view the show from this private beach location as you enjoy burgers, dogs, and of course $7 beers. For more information you can request a map from at the center of Chicago Air and Water Show, but as this is a pop up shop there is no online menu. So to find this hidden gem head toward Castaways on North Avenue Beach.

The annual Edison Park Fest is back and better than ever! With amazing shopping, food stands, and a lineup that’s unforgettable, this festival is not one to miss. There will be inflatables for the kids and a beer garden for the adults, making it the perfect Sunday Funday.
