Happy Hour has gone green. Mingle with the green fairy and indulge in the Violet Hour’s “absinthe Happy Hour” also known as L’Heure Verte, or “the green hour.” The Violet Hour celebrates the early 1920’s in France, a period where absinthe consumption was popular, by celebrating fine varieties from awesome distilleries. Indulge in four absinthes for $4-$5 off the regular price and three absinthe cocktails for $10 instead of $13. For more information, visit here.

The zoo’s popular Wine & Wildlife after-hours series lets adults enjoy a glass of wine while learning about the zoo’s global conservation programs from animal care experts and research scientists. This week, meet author Matt Kaplan over a glass of wine and listen as he provides insights into the elements of mystical places and magical objects— love potions, oracles and more—from ancient history, mythology and contemporary culture. Visit here for more information.

This event has become an autumn tradition here in Chicago, as Shedd savors the fruits of the aquarium’s productive hops vines, turned into a limited-edition harvest ale by their partners at Revolution Brewing. You get a free sample, and then with every pint of Penguin Hops you purchase, $1 will be donated to Shedd to help support conservation initiatives and other mission-fulfilling work. Tickets for the event are $18 for non-members and $9 for members, and the event goes from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Check out more information here.

What is better than a fabulous event benefitting an amazing local cause? We can’t think of much else, which is why we are excited about the Run Like a Girl Soirée, benefitting Girls on the Run, a local Chicago organization. Girls on the Run is a life-changing, non-profit program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grade. Their mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident. Join Girls on the Run supporters and fellow fitness enthusiasts at the historic Drake Hotel for wine, beer (courtesy of 3 Floyds) cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and live music, plus a silent auction. All funds raised at the Soirée will help support the life-changing Girls on the Run programming throughout Chicagoland. Tickets are $157, the same cost for a girl to participate in the program.
