The Lust List: Winter Solemates

Magazines always tell you that you’re a shoe girl or you’re a bag girl. I lug around the same Michael Kors bag everywhere, only occasionally mixing it up with a gym bag, so it is clear that I’m playing for Team Shoes.

In fact, my high school superlative out of a class of 1,000 peers was Best Shoes. That’s right, my stockpile of stilettos outshone my likelihood of future success or athletic prowess (even in varsity lacrosse and cheer-leading, you better believe my cleats were top of the line).

It’s safe to say that I have grown up a lot since high school, and my love for fancy footwear has grown in tandem. Fortunately, my shoe budget has expanded from my after-school job working retail at the local mall to a big-girl PR flack salary, which is primarily spent on shoes and food. And NYC rent.

Although my personal style usually falls on the extravagant, bright and sometimes even bizarre end of the spectrum, this winter I’m gravitating towards luxe neutral booties that can transition from day to night.

With the impending onset of the holiday party circuit, us busy girls about town don’t have the time and the space in our purses to lug around numerous outfit changes—unless you happen to be rocking the aforementioned oversized Michael Kors bag on a daily basis. But a beautifully crafted boot with a slight heel is everything this season. And, PS, leopard print is a neutral.

I personally prefer a winter short boot with a chunky heel for comfort, but certainly lust over a sassy stiletto heel. Velvety suede and rich leather are seasonally appropriate and pair perfectly with a chunky knit, leather mini and opaque tights.

The latest members in my shoe family are these fabulous gold mirror booties from the Coye Nokes Winter collection. They check all of the boxes in my list of critical shoe criteria—fashionable, functional and fierce—and have lasted dependably through 14-hour days of client meetings, after-hours events and subway commutes. Added bonus, they give me a few extra inches of height for the perfect vantage point to briskly navigate through Union Square during rush hour. The N, Q, R never looked this good!

Here are a few other pairs of winter booties to keep you well-heeled well into springtime.
