The Lust List: The Ultimate Holiday Party Clutch

Is there anything that makes a woman feel more feminine that red lipstick, high heels, and a sequin clutch? I’d venture to say no.

I thoroughly believe—and revel in—dressing up for any and all occasions. Whether it’s heels and a bright frock for a cocktail party or lots of baubles and a hair bow over an over-sized sweater and leggings at brunch, I’m a firm believer in a daily dose of glam.

I mean, there are plenty of downsides to being female: cramps, Spanx, bikini waxes, and 75 cents to every man’s dollar, to name a few. So, we may as well take pleasure in the distinct feminine attributes: high heels, lipstick, pink, bows, glitz, and glam. After all, there are plenty of things a lovely lady can get away with that a man can’t.

I spent this Holiday season decked out in sequins, form-fitting cocktail dresses, red lipstick, glittery polish and more. So what’s different between this year and last? I’ve traded my gold Kate Spade shoulder bag in for this season’s hottest handbag: the box clutch, or minaudiere.

The minaudiere is not a new handbag trend: Ladies have been carrying them to galas for the better part of a century—think early 1900s. Judith Leiber has been making her tiny bejeweled boxes, which cost thousands of dollars and are worn by New York’s high society, since the 1960s. Leiber’s minaudieres gained notoriety when Carrie Bradshaw carried a tiny bejeweled cupcake by Leiber on Sex and the City.

What’s different is that this season they are affordable, with designers like Diane von Furstenburg and brands like C  Wonder putting out affordable versions. So, if you’re looking for a cute accessory to buy yourself for Christmas or to carry to your New Year’s Eve soiree, opt for one of these minaudieres.

Mine fits red my iPhone, red lipstick, ID, credit card and an emergency $20. I leave the rest to the handsome gentleman in the tux beside me.
