Just when we thought we couldn’t take another day of grey skies and sweaters, it’s baseball season! There’s something so nostalgic about baseball season and specifically, Opening Day to me. Baseball was the name of the game when I was growing up; my dad played in college, batting practice was a regular weekend activity, we witnessed epic Yankee moments in the Bronx (anyone else at David Cone’s perfect game?), and I’m pretty sure at one point I thought I was going to grow up to be a Yankee.
Even more so than the fond childhood memories, Opening Day marks the beginning of spring, the promise of warmer weather, and the anticipation of many leisurely sun-soaked afternoons to come.
Stripes are such an iconic look that J. Crew deemed this past Saturday #nationalstripeday as an official ode to the beloved closet staple. We took the trend one step further and honed in on our favorite pinstripe pieces (which may or may not have been inspired by my favorite MLB team) for the season.
To commemorate the season, we’re whipping out our baseball hats and donning stripes for an all-American look suited for happy hours, al fresco festivals, and a ballgame (or two). I’ve been pairing these Superga sneaks with everything in my closet these days–from midi dresses to jeans. Speaking of jeans, this is my first pair of Frame denim jeans and they feel nothing short of butter on your stems. They are the perfect jeans for a baseball game or an al fresco date night–I can’t believe I’ve lived 30 years without this brand in my life.
I walked into H&M yesterday only to see that the cornerstone of their entire spring collection is pinstripes. Some of the styles were not my cup of tea–that will be a hard pass on the full pinstripe suit–but I was drawn to incorporating the iconic print through oversized button down shirts, pants with a tie waist, and a cute camisole PJ set.
