The Lust List: Pink + Leopard

Life is complicated enough—your clothes shouldn’t have to be. While I love to play with fashion, I have a Rolodex of go-to pieces, looks, and color combos on which I rely when in a hurry, or when I want to feel and look great.

Call me basic, but I rely on pink, leopard, and a good pair of denim. In transitional seasons—as summer turns to fall—your go-to staples are ever the more important. It’s too late for our most summer-y ensembles, but too early to break out the tweeds, textures, and riding boots that autumn beckons.

You can’t really go wrong with a silk cami, a great pair of jeans, and some comfortable heels or wedges. It’s an easy ensemble—and you can accessorize as you so desire, when time allows.

I’m really fond of my new clutch from Essex LA, a small company that allows you to make your own clutch: you pick the size, outer material, inside color, and zipper color. I picked leopard calf hair with a pink zipper and grey lining. Inside, there are nifty poches for your phone and credit cards. The bags are functional, affordable, and made in the good ole’ U.S.A.

Once you have a great pair of distressed denim in your arsenal, you’re set for a weekend full of brunching, errands, and coffee shop dates. I prefer some light wear and tear on my denim so it’s still appropriate for casual meetings, while NYC editor Ally is currently living in ultra-distressed, baggy boyfriend jeans.

J. Crew is my standby for simple separates in a rainbow of colors that can be layered throughout the year. The brand’s silk cami is timeless. Select colors are currently on sale so I plan to stock up.
