The Lust List: KOLTON J

Shop local, think global is one of my favorite mottos—and it’s always nice to see that happening right here in Washington. It’s even more exciting when I see amazing local women doing amazing things.

I first met Jenny Schretter at a ReadySetDC fashion event last spring and immediately picked up a geode necklace from her eco-vintage jewelry line, KOLTON.J, which I wear regularly. Since then, I’ve had cocktails with her a few times and gotten to know the beautiful, stylish, brunette.

A graduate of Boston College, Jenny is a self-taught designer who began making jewelry as a hobby in 2008 while living in SoHo and working as an interdealer broker on Wall Street. She eventually gave up her career in finance and came back to Washington to focus on KOLTON.J full-time.

KOLTON.J’s chic, unique pieces are constructed with raw materials—stone, chain, rare vintage findings—with a characteristic juxtaposition of textures using unique color palates. The baubles are handmade in the United States, as the one-of-a-kind pieces are made by Jenny herself.

KOLTON.J has been featured in Washingtonian, InStyle Magazine, Fox News, DailyCandy, OK!Magazine, Redbook, and People StyleWatch among others, in addition to being adorned by celebrities and stylists alike.

Best of all, Jenny donates 10 percent per online order to the charity of the customer’s choice, including ten highly vetted women- and children-based charities.

While the line makes all sorts of baubles, it’s the stunning statement necklaces with geodes, pearls, and mixed metals that are worth every penny. Right now, I’m loving the coral and pearl pieces on display. I’ve picked out the pieces I’m lusting after, below.
