Ah, spring gala season has begun. Aren’t you excited? There will be oodles of spring events—Fashion for Paws, Bachelors and Spinsters, White House Correspondents Dinner parties, and Ball on the Mall. Not to mention weddings, garden parties, and Gold Cup. I hope you’ve saved your pennies and dry cleaned last year’s spring frocks to get ready for the bevy of spring soirees.

This year, spring party season kicks off a week earlier with Sumeria Group’s launch in Washington with a Capitol Gala at the Sphinx Club, a visually stunning space on Farragut Square and my new favorite party venue. The formula is much the same: ticketed event, open bar, live band, lots of fun.

A bit about Sumeria Group: the organization helps nonprofits, startups, and other emerging brands connect with talented young professionals through customized social events. Sumeria’s mission is to help bring young professionals together while benefiting its partners simultaneously.

Founded in July of 2011, Sumeria has worked with more than 50 companies across sectors, helping boost brand visibility to approximately 7,500 young professionals through social events, donating more than $200K while introducing hundreds to organizations and totaling a collective 1,500 volunteer hours. They have chapters in New York, Philly, San Fran and Boston and, now, kicking off with the gala, Washington.

As one of the Gala’s hostesses, a fashion addict and a Bitch, I’m here to help you figure out what to wear. The gala is “black tie optional,” which essentially means you could wear a gown or your dressiest cocktail dress. But, why not wear a gown, as most of the time you’ll be in a short frock and who doesn’t want to dress to the nines.

Jewel tones were huge in the fall, and remain so in the spring. I’d suggest investing in a high-end, solid-colored jewel-toned gown because: (1) it’s on-trend-yet-timeless (colors can’t really go out of style), (2) solid-colored gowns scream mature sophistication and (3) jewel tones are far less predictable than a basic black or red. Here are my picks.

You can get tickets to the gala, here, and RSVP on Facebook, here. Happy shopping and gala-hopping, lads and ladies.
