Even though I’ve finished watching the most recent Game of Thrones season, I still look to my girls Daenerys, Sansa, and Cersei for some seriously style inspiration. While these leading ladies are kicking butt and taking names, you know they aren’t wincing around in wobbly stilettos. Enter: gladiator sandals.
Gladiator sandals have been popping up everywhere from runways to accessible retailers. My all-time favorites are classics by Stuart Weitzman in black, camel, and a neutral snakeskin print. And yes, animal print is now a neutral. Versions of this trend range from strappy ankle to knee-high sandals in a variety of colors and textures.
If you’ve been following our recent fashion posts, you know the Bitches are all about chic comfort this summer. The majority of gladiator sandals that we’re lusting over have a comfortable flat sole or slight chunky heel, yet still exude style and a level of dressiness. I’ll rock my knee-high black gladiators with a work dress, cut off jean shorts, or peeking out of a colorful maxi.
For those who want to dip their toes in this trend, try a light brown or gold ankle-strap, flat sandal. These will go with everything and can easily transition from day to night. For more fierce fashionistas, dare to go knee length and try embellishments or a heel.
I’ve yet to determine if gladiator sandals are considered universally cool or more of a “man repeller” trend. This bold footwear makes an impression and contains some serious hardware. I’ve received compliments from men and women alike, although my boyfriend has still cracked some “I AM SPARTA” jokes at my expense. Regardless, I’m still confidently strapping on my gladiator sandals and hitting the streets.
