Leather: a material that finds a home in your closet, regardless of the season. Its various colors, styles, and textures compliment your wardrobe, no matter the occasion. Whether it’s a tan leather clutch on a summer night out, or a pleated red leather skirt in the middle of January, leather is a girl’s best friend. From a pair of brown leather riding boots for an autumn morning brunch, to those leather Valentino gladiator sandals on a Spring Break getaway…leather is like Audrey Hepburn: timeless, classic, and always in style.
With temperatures hovering above the 25 degree mark in Chicago, it’s clear that spring isn’t coming anytime soon. When the calendar shows spring, but Mother Nature tells us otherwise, leather leggings are a surefire hit. Real leather leggings will cost you a pretty penny, but a good pair of faux leather leggings will do the trick. You can rock ‘em with heels or booties at a fancy pants brunch with the girls, or, during your Saturday window-shopping stroll with a pair of flats and a long comfy sweater.
Even when the milder spring temperatures finally decide to make an appearance, your leather leggings can be paired with a longer blouse or a flouncy tunic.
In the corporate environment, leather leggings or leather skirts, styled the appropriate way, meet the uncompromising requirements us women encounter…balancing “office proper” with “cute enough for happy hour.” Ah yes, the daily challenges we face (sigh).
Another 9 to 5 leather wardrobe staple is our work bag/tote/purse. We all struggle with the same two questions: do we invest in a bag that’s functional? Or, one that’s fashionable? Recognizing the various options for hauling the daily work essentials and beauty must-haves, I’ve come to find that leather bags withstand the wear and tear of train rides, bus stops, taxis, and other hazards of your daily commute.
A work bag that has it all? The Henri Bendel West 57th Leather Satchel—it’s stylish, holds just about any laptop or iPad, is great for traveling, and is extremely versatile.
Here are some of my favorite leather pieces that transition not only across seasons, but from your work-consumed thoughts to your cheers-to-the-freakin’ weekend mindset.
