Ah, Labor Day. We’re in that weird transitional period where the last weekend of summer is upon us and we’re gearing up for fall, but it’s still 75 degrees outside. My mind and my closet are utterly confused. I’ll start to unpack my light sweaters and then be hit with a day of 67 percent humidity. What’s a girl to do? Luckily, you likely have some summery pieces in your closet that can help bridge this seasonal gap and look stylish while doing so. Enter, floral pants.
I love a bold, punchy print so I’ve naturally been drawn to the floral pants trend. I’ve seen a plethora of variations of the trend in stores that differ in fabric, fit, and hues. My personal favorite is a hippy-dippy flowy, high-waisted pair that feel akin to a maxi-skirt. The high cut works perfectly with this summer’s crop tops while loose silk fabric with a slit allows for proper ventilation in hot temperatures. And let’s face it, any article of clothing that I could appropriately wear to Coachella and to the office is an ultimate win in my book.
I’m also coveting loose floral pants in a cropped track pant style and skinnies in perennial patterns. All of these looks can be easily dressed up or down. Heading on a date? Add a silk top and a pair of pumps or heeled sandals. Neutral footwear without embellishments are best, as to not distract from the busy bottoms. Grabbing brunch with the girls? Slip on a pair of tennies and a denim vest. Floral pants are chic enough to get you from morning errands to beignets and bubbly, and potentially an afternoon of post-brunch debauchery if you’re feeling ambitious.
As we move into autumn, don’t pack away your floral pants just yet. I plan to mix and match mine with a cropped quilted sweatshirt (Madewell or H&M), a perfectly worn-in chambray shirt, and under a boxy swing coat to stretch out the use of my top-rated trousers for as long as possible. Swap the summer sandals for a pair of transitional booties and you’re good to go.
