Denim is a tricky subject. In my opinion, denim should be carefully thought through before being worn in a form other than jeans. Jorts (read: jean-shorts) can be super cute if they are the right length—short, but not too short, they have the right hem—cuffed or carefully frayed, and they are paired with a conservative top—a button-down or a cute tee. Jean skirts? So college. Jean jackets? So middle school. Jean shirts? Are you going to a hoedown?
This new Chambray trend has thrown me for a loop. Chambray is a stiff, light, cotton cloth in a light-denim color. It’s like denim’s weird second cousin. And it’s everywhere. Most recently, in the form of skirts with ruffles and tiers, which are trendy but cute. I envision these skirts paired with an oxford button down and oxford high-heeled pumps for work, and a tank top and sandals for the weekend.
