I have a love/hate relationship with the turtleneck. I love that they serve as a no-brainer layering piece this time of the year, but I hate that after a full day in one, I feel like I’m being suffocated by an itchy, angry sheep.
Needless to say, when I came across this black, jersey knit, tissue thin turtleneck it defied every preconceived notion I’ve previously had towards turtlenecks. The light, stretchy material is seasonally appropriate and keeps you warm, almost like a Dri-Fit material is engineered to do.
On days when it’s not so frigid that you kick fashion to the curb, I reach for the camel coat I picked up in Milan this fall. Admittedly, with a one button closure, it’s not the warmest coat in my closet, but the menswear shape is chic and exudes a femme fatale look. I find myself layering it over a work dress and tights during the week or with distressed jeans and turtlenecks on the weekend, like the “off duty” look, here.
I matched the simple and sleek vibe of this outfit with leather and gold details by way of two of my favorite purchases in Florence: a black leather backpack and mid-calf suede and gold button boots.
I had been searching for mid-calf booties all fall and to no ones surprise, found my ideal pair in Italy last October. I rounded up a few other cute pairs you can grab without booking a flight across the Atlantic.
We’ll be living in this laid-back, polished look until the temperatures rise. Shop our camel coats and favorite tissue turtlenecks below.
